Happy Veterans Day: Honoring Mark Smith

This Veterans Day 2023, we pause to reflect on the sacrifices and dedication of the men and women who have served in our armed forces. It is with great pride and gratitude that we honor Mark Smith, the owner of CertaPro Painters of Southern Maryland. His remarkable journey from a tank officer in the U.S. Army to a respected business owner is a story that deserves to be celebrated.

Mark Smith’s story begins in 1980 when he embarked on a path of service, joining the U.S. Army as a tank officer. Over the next 14 years, Mark demonstrated his unwavering commitment to his country and showcased his leadership skills in various roles.

During his time in the military, Mark served in the 1st Cavalry Division in Texas and the 3rd Infantry Division in Germany, where he commanded two tank companies on the East/West Germany border.

Mark’s commitment to service extended to his assignment to West Point. He spent four years shaping young cadets’ lives at the United States Military Academy, where he taught international relations and national security studies in the Department of Social Sciences.

One of the most remarkable chapters in Mark’s military career was having the privilege of serving as a special assistant to General Jack Galvin, former Supreme Allied Commander, Europe. Mark had the honor of accompanying Gen. Galvin to peace talks in Bosnia and Croatia in 1994.

Mark loved his career and service and appreciates every customer we serve who has also served our country.
